The Stonington Village Fair

August 7,1999

One of the highlights of the summer in Stonington is the Village Fair, and the Stonington Garden Club mans a booth selling fresh flower arrangements, cut flowers and plants. All proceeds go to the Stonington Community Center. Our Co-chairs Anne Robins and Miss Ray Coker did quite a job. It's hard to believe there are so many beautiful flowers in August after a dry, hot summer.

All the flowers are donated and arranged by club members. Bright and early on Saturday morning they start the work on the terrace of a home across the street from the fair, and continue throughout the day to meet the demand.

Krystyna Celichowski, one of our master arrangers, can make anything into a work of art. When she isn’t arranging flowers you'll find her and her husband Stefan in the gardens at the Stonington Lighthouse keeping everything neat and tidy. They are there every Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.. If you like to garden an have some free time, stop in and lend a hand. You can’t beat the location!

Nealy Dickinson picks out a selection to arrange - with so many different flowers it's a hard choice.

While arranging the flowers Hennie Conger and Millicent Yinkey get to catch up on the summer news and share their flower arranging skills over a cup of tea.
